Occupational Therapy Insurance
Occupational therapy is the applied science of helping people improve their function with basic activities. While it can be especially important when dealing with illness or injury, there are a number of other causes or reasons it might contribute to better functioning. In any of these cases, occupational therapy insurance can help pay the expenses if any unexpected diagnoses is given. The circumstances where therapy might be needed has no bounds, and it's possible that any person could find themselves in a situation where functioning could benefit by receiving therapy. Professionals in the field have branched into any of six general areas of practice: children and youth, health and wellness, productive aging, rehabilitation and disability and participation, work and industry, and mental health. Obviously, the reason for a need of therapy is not the same for all six categories. While the causes are not all the same, improvement in quality of life through better functioning is the common goal. The first step in improvement is understanding what the cause and the specific goals, so the right treatment methodologies can be applied. The classic occupational therapy is directed toward WORK AND INDUSTRY. It may involve ergonomics related to avoiding injury, such as improving the design of a keyboard or mouse to to prevent carpel tunnel syndrome. It might also be toward helping to recover from an injury such as carpel tunnel syndrome, or a crushed leg. In general, it is dedicated to improving or restoring workplace productivity. When an injury occurs, soft tissue including nerves, muscles and tendons is affected. The physical therapy part will deal with pain, mobility, flexibility and strength issues, trying to reduce pain while at the same trying to get flexibility back into the body, as nerves try to recover. Another category, is MENTAL HEALTH. It is further divided into categories for children and adults. In adults, it seeks to help functioning in the face of depression and substance abuse. In some cases, it is an adjunct toward helping to end the abuse, but in cases of depression, it can help identify the underlying cause and resolve that cause. For instance, the love of a past hobby or interest that was forgotten long ago might be revived, and help bring new meaning to life. But this is just one simple example. |
